The Tourism Enhancement Fund partnered with the White River Marine Association to purchase a glass-bottom boat, an engine and equipment for monitoring and enforcement exercises as well as a container to be used as an office space. The project was geared towards addressing the decline in coral reef health and the fish population by stabilizing and reversing the negative impacts to the eco-system by improving coastal protection.
There is a noticeable increase in the number of glass-bottom boats seen within the sanctuary that use the coral nursery as an attraction and to educate tourists. The project has benefited the local community by providing gainful employment of fishermen as Sanctuary Wardens and Coral Gardeners, thus improving their quality of lives.
