In an effort to modernize postal services, 120 post offices had been identified for renovation with modern features in order to rebrand the Jamaican postal service.
The Ocho Rios Post Office located on Main Street in close proximity to the Craft Market is the first of many to be renovated. The renovations to the building began in 2017, as a partnership between the Post and Telecommunication Department, to make the area more spacious, modern and customer-centric. The renovation included the roof repairs, re-tiling, painting, electrical and plumbing works for the building as well as the installation of more private letter boxes. This post office located in the major tourism hub facilitates the purchase of destination postcards and other uniquely Jamaican souvenirs such as stamps.
The project was successfully completed in 2019 and reopened for public (tourists and local) use.
