The development of a military heritage attraction in the Kingston Resort region at the Newcastle Heritage Site. The project was deemed to provide an opportunity to diversity the tourism offering in the Kingston Resort region by showcasing military history and heritage whilst increasing the overall product offerings within the area.
The TEF partnership with the Jamaica Defence Force allowed for the construction of a multi-purpose building to house a museum and souvenir/gift shop to showcase exhibition of artifacts, photographic inventories and storyboards on the history and function of the Newcastle military base as well as to rehabilitate the military badges at the facility. The Military Heritage Attraction now provides the following to locals and visitors alike: a glimpse into the training routine and daily interface with the soldiers, a new dimension to the heritage tourism landscape in Jamaica and self-guided hiking trail tours with scenic views.
