Ambassador Marcia Gilbert-Roberts, CD, JP

Ambassador Marcia Gilbert-Roberts served in the Jamaican Foreign Service for over four decades, holding various roles at both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its overseas missions. She was appointed Ambassador to Germany in 2002, with accreditation to several European countries, Israel, the Vatican, and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. In 2007, she became Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, with responsibility for additional EU member states and UNESCO in Paris.

During her tenure, she served as Chief Negotiator for the ACP-EU Cotonou Partnership Agreement and led election observer missions. Returning to the Ministry in 2016 as Permanent Secretary and Head of the Jamaican Foreign Service, she focused on building stronger global linkages for Jamaica in trade, social development, and political dialogue, retiring in 2021.

Now retired, she remains engaged in national and international matters, supporting educational development, charitable causes, and human development projects. She is a member of the Education Sub-Committee of the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO and the Council of the Institute of Jamaica. She also serves as a Justice of the Peace for St. Andrew.

Ambassador Gilbert-Roberts has received several prestigious honors, including the Pontifical Knighthood – Dame Grand Cross of the Order of St. Gregory the Great (DCSG) for exemplary service and the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) for her contributions to the Jamaican Foreign Service.

A proud Wolmerian, she holds a bachelor’s degree in French and History, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Master’s in Psycholinguistics from the University of Besançon. Guided by her Christian principles and the Wolmer’s motto, ‘AGE QUOD AGIS’ [Whatever You Do, Do It Well], she remains committed to exceptional service and leadership.
