Orchard Beach is also known as Old Steamer Beach. This is because there is an old shipwreck located within the water near the shoreline. The Beach consists of fine grain white sand with a relatively narrow area of sand to allow for recreational use. Old reef rocks are scattered along sections of the beach near the high-water mark. The area shows signs of erosion.
This beach is one of many under the Tourism Enhancement Fund’s Beaches Programme that will undergo major infrastructural improvements to facilitate a welcoming environment for both tourists and locals alike. With the improvements, the beach will remain free for public access as well as include commercial stalls, sewerage, and other amenities for ease of access to the beach and its surrounding areas.
